Abstract
The energy sector is undergoing a major transition due to the increasing penetration of renewables, decentralized energy resources (DERs), and digital transformation. Current power grids face challenges related to intermittency, inefficiencies in energy distribution, and cybersecurity vulnerabilities. The SmartGrid+ project proposes an AI-powered and blockchain-secured platform to enable real-time monitoring, automation, and secure traceability of energy flow across the grid.
SmartGrid+ will integrate machine learning algorithms to predict demand patterns and dynamically optimize grid operations, reducing losses and improving energy distribution efficiency. Additionally, blockchain technology will ensure transparent and tamper-proof energy transactions, facilitating peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading and grid decentralization. IoT sensors and smart meters will be deployed to collect real-time data, ensuring accurate demand response and fault detection.
This project aligns with Enel’s strategic vision of digital transformation in the energy sector and contributes to the EU’s Green Deal and energy transition goals. Through public-private collaboration, the project will leverage the expertise of research institutions, technology companies, and energy providers to develop an innovative and scalable solution for next-generation power grids.
